At the 20th Bolzano Cinema festival, taking place in the Italian provincial capital Bolzano from April 5 – 9, 2006, «Gambit» by Sabine Gisiger (Production: Dschoint Ventschr, Zurich) was given the prize for Best Documentary Film. The award, which is donated by the South Tyrol Savings Bank, comes with a prize sum of 4,000 Euro. Six films from Germany, Austria, Italy, and Switzerland were competing in the documentary section. With the feature film «Snow White» by Samir, an additional production by Dschoint Ventschr was part of this year’s festival competition.
The international jury was comprised of television station RAI Bolzano programming executives, Nives Simonetti (director of Munich Filmfest), Andreas Ströhl, and filmmaker and Merano resident Günther Haller. The jury justified its decision as follows: «With this prize, we would like to acknowledge the courage of the filmmaker along with that of the protagonist Jörg Sambeth, for investigating the true cause and background of this personal and global catastrophe, and doing so with openness and dramaturgic ability».
