Four Swiss films in Bangkok

At the Bangkok International Film Festival, taking place from February 17-27, 2006, the feature film debut “Ryna” by Geneva resident Ruxandra Zenide (Production: Pacific Films and Navarro Films, Geneva) will be shown in the “New Voices” competition section. Also competing in this section for the “New Directors Award” will be the Austrian-Swiss co-production “You Bet Your Life” by Antonin Svoboda (Co-production:Triluna Film, Zurich). The documentary film “The Giant Buddhas” by Christian Frei will be shown in the “Reel World” competition section, which includes the most outstanding documentary films of the year. The winner of the 2005 Swiss Film Prize “One Long Winter Without Fire” by Greg Zglinski will be featured in the “Windows of the world” section.
All three films have received numerous invitations to international film festivals along with several awards. “The Giant Buddhas” was bestowed the “Golden Dove” in Leipzig, “Ryna” was given the “Grand Prize” in Bordeaux and Special Prizes in Mannheim, among others, and “One Long Winter Without Fire” received awards in Venice. Similarly, the co-production “You Bet Your Life” has been invited to several important film festivals.
“The Giant Buddhas” will be released in Western Swiss movie theatres on March 8th (Distribution: Look Now!), while “Ryna” will be shown in movie theatres in Western Switzerland beginning in April and will be reaching Swiss German movie theatres in May 2006.
