Focus on Swiss documentary films in Buenos Aires

The Doc Buenos Aires film festival focuses on Swiss documentary filmmaking. Among the films screened in the programme is the multi-award-winning film “Hiver nomade,” which celebrated its world premiere at the Berlinale and has since been screened at numerous international festivals. The film will be released in cinemas in Switzerland at the beginning of November. Doc Buenos Aires is the most important platform for documentary films in Argentina.

The following Swiss film productions will be screened at the 12th Doc Buenos Aires in Buenos Aires (October 18-28, 2012): “Capitaine Thomas Sankara” by Christoph Cupelin; “Hiver nomade” by Manuel von Stürler; and “Une escroc très discrète" by Delphine Vaucher-Hallis. This “Foco suizo” is in collaboration with the Argentine documentary film festival and SWISS FILMS, the promotion agency. Film productions from Switzerland have been in the limelight at this festival since 2010. It is the most important platform for documentary film productions in Argentina and deliberately limits its selection to 40 films.

The documentary adventure “Hiver nomade” has already been honoured with several international awards and screened at approximately 20 festivals since its world premiere in Berlin (February 2012), including Sydney, Reykjavik, London and Montreal. The film will be released in Switzerland at the beginning of November. Manuel von Stürler will present his shepherds’ journey personally in Buenos Aires. Christoph Cupelin will also attend the festival to present “Capitaine Thomas Sankara,” a portrait of the late president of Burkina Faso. Rounding off the Swiss presence in Argentina is the portrait of a swindler “Une escroc très discrète" by Delphine Vaucher-Hallis.
