16.04.2008

Switzerland will be represented with five films at the 15th Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival, which will take place in Toronto from April 17 – 27, 2008. Eric Bergkraut’s “Letter to Anna” (P.S. 72 Productions, Zurich) and “La mere” by Antoine Cattin and Pavel Kostomarov (Les Films Hors-Champ, Lausanne) are up for the international Hot Docs Awards awarded in three categories. In addition, the coproduction “Memory Books” by Christa Graf, from Munich, will be competing against 27 productions from 16 countries for awards.
Screened in the “Make Me A Believer” section will be the film “Shadow Of The Holy Book” by Finnish director Arto Halonen, a coproduction with Dschoint Ventschr from Zurich and the three Swiss television stations SF, TSR and TSI. The seven-minute film “Je suis une bombe” by video artist Elodie Pong, which will be screened in the “Next” section, completes Switzerland’s exceptionally strong presence at Hot Docs this year. Founded in 1993 by independent documentary filmmakers, Hot Docs now ranks among the most important documentary film festivals in North America. Together with the competitions for Canadian and international documentary films, Hot Docs organizes an industry program for the over 1,800 film professionals from around the world who attend the festival: a film market, coproduction meetings and a diverse number of professional seminars.
