Films by emerging directors at “IndieLisboa” Festival

The “IndieLisboa” International Festival of Independent Cinema is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. As in previous years, Switzerland is represented in almost all the festival sections, this year with a total of 17 films.

This year marks the 10th year that the “IndieLisboa” Festival showcases independent cinema (April 18-28, 2013). Among the myriad of international films on the festival programme are nine Swiss film productions and coproduction’s, as well as a special screening comprised of eight short films from the Master study programme at ECAL/HEAD.

One documentary and one animation film in international competition
Two short film productions from Switzerland will be screened in the festival’s International Competition: the documentary film “À beira de Lisboa” by Argentine ECAL student Pablo Briones and the animation film “The Kiosk” (Der Kiosk) by Anete Melece. Together with 40 other films, they are in the running for the Grand Prize for Best Short Film, endowed with EUR 4,000. The animated documentary film “La nuit de l’ours” by Frédéric and Samuel Guillaume, honoured with the Swiss Film Award 2013 for Best Animation Film, will be screened in the World Pulse Competition. Filmmakers Pablo Briones and Anete Melece will travel to the festival in the Portuguese capital to present their films personally.

Judged by the festival audience
Five further Swiss film productions screened in three other festival sections will be judged by the audience in Lisbon. The two animation films “Der kleine Vogel und das Blatt” by Lena von Döhren and “La fenêtre” (Das Fenster) by Camille Müller will be screened in the IndieJunior section; Robin Harsch’s documentary film “Les cheveux courts, ronde, petite taille” will be screened Emerging Cinema section. The film “Chemin faisant” (Auf dem Weg) by Georges Schwizgebel and “Sakda” by Apichatpong Weerasethakul, both of which were produced by Rita Productions in Geneva in conjunction with the “La faute à Rousseau” Collection, will be screened in the Observatory section. Sophie Huber’s feature-length documentary film “Harry Dean Stanton: Partly Fiction” will also be screened at the festival.
