Two films from Switzerland have been nominated for the European Film Awards 2024. For the first time, the award ceremony will take place in Switzerland. On December 7, 2024, the European film industry will gather at the KKL Luzern for the glamorous event.

A committee of animation experts has selected the five nominated films in the “European Animated Feature Film” category: From Switzerland, the stop-motion animation SAUVAGES by Claude Barras, produced by Geneva-based animation studio Nadasdy Film (Nicolas Burlet), has been nominated. The Swiss-Belgian-French coproduction celebrated its world premiere in Cannes, screened in competition at the Annecy Animation Film Festival and on the Piazza Grande in Locarno, among many other festivals. For the first time, films from the category “European Animated Feature Film” are also eligible to compete in the European Film category.

Basil Da Cunha’s short fiction film 2720 is nominated as one of five short films for the EUROPEAN SHORT FILM - Prix Vimeo. The film was first shortlisted by the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival where it was won the award for Best European Film. The film by the Swiss-Portuguese director was produced and shot in Portugal and can already boast an extensive international festival career garnering numerous awards.

Supporting programmes

In addition to the award ceremony, a supporting programme throughout Switzerland is featuring European and Swiss film-makers in cinemas and at various film festivals and events. On the occasion of the European Film Awards, SWISS FILMS has organised a “Tour d’Europe” in collaboration with European film festivals, showcasing Swiss film productions and coproductions that have been nominated for or have won the European Film Award in recent years.
