The Swiss documentary film “Die Wiesenberger” about a yodel choir from Central Switzerland will be screened at the DOC NYC in Greenwich Village. The film, which portrays mountain dwellers who attempt to remain authentic while caught between tradition and the allure of show business, has already won over festival audiences several times. It has been screened in Korea, Japan and Germany.

The artistic director of New York’s Documentary Film Festival, Thom Powers, will screen the film “Die Wiesenberger” by Bernard Weber and Martin Schilt at DOC NYC in Greenwich Village (November 8-15, 2012). Powers is also responsible for the international programme at renowned Toronto Film Festival, at which Swiss films are regularly screened.

Dilemma for singing mountain dwellers

“Die Wiesenberger - No Business Like Show Business” portrays a Chor from Central Switzerland. After their breakthrough, the singing mountain dwellers are bombarded with offers, one of which is very special: the yodellers from Nidwalden have been invited to represent Switzerland at the World Expo in Shanghai. This tempting offer becomes a crucial test.

The film was honoured with the Audience Award in Eberswalde, Germany, and at the last Solothurn Film Festival. The film”«Die Wiesenberger” has attracted over 50,000 viewers since its cinematic release (Xenix Filmdistribution, Zurich) last February.
