Celebrating Romandie filmmaking in Geneva

The “Fonction: Cinéma” association has organized the first “ Festival du Film Romand à Genève” (FROG), taking place from June 3-5, 2005. It replaces the former “Genève fait son cinéma” (Geneva makes its own cinema) event which took place yearly in the city of Geneva. Over the course of a long weekend, a selection of short, fiction, and documentary films will be shown, all produced in the French speaking part of Switzerland over the past few months.
With a total of 20 documentary films in its program, the festival testifies to the fact that this genre is particularly alive and well in Switzerland. In the fiction section, there are nine long and 37 short films listed. The film “Straehl” by Manuel Flurin Hendry represents a bridge between the German and French speaking part of the country. His film will be shown during an open-air presentation. Also shown in the open air cinema will be 2005 Swiss Film Prize winner “Tout un hiver sans feu” by Greg Zglinski. “Josh’s Trees” by Peter Entell and “Le Souffle du Désert” (The breathing of the desert) by François Kohler, both currently playing in French speaking cinemas, are additional highlights of this first edition of the festival. Numerous Geneva and international premieres are also contributing to the appeal of this three-day movie marathon.
