Urs Odermatt’s fiction film “The Wicked Uncle” was honoured with the New Vision Award at the 11th Rome Independent Film Festival RIFF (April 12-20, 2012). The 13-member jury presented the award for Best International Film to the Swiss- and Polish-based director Greg Zglinski for his new fiction film “Courage.” The RIFF provides independent film productions from all over the world a prominent platform in Italy’s capital city.
Urs Odermatt and his producer Jasmin Morgan presented the Swiss-German coproduction “The Wicked Uncle” personally at the festival. The social satire is about a sexual assault of a young girl. The film was conceived as an underground production with an entirely unique sponsoring concept and, thanks to the use of a RED ONE camera, complies with quality standards traditionally produced fiction films.
Greg Zglinski’s film “Courage” is also about dealing with violence in everyday life. The author of the film “Tout un hiver sans feu” (2004), which won the Swiss Film Prize, shot this film in his Polish homeland. The film was nominated for the Prix de Soleure at the Solothurn Film Festival 2012.
