20.03.2009

Gaël Metroz’s documentary film “Nomad’s Land” was honoured with the Audience Prize at the Festival Cinema Planeta in Mexico (March 11-15, 2009). The festival, which is held in Cuernavaca, south of Mexico City, is devoted to films made for the cinema which deal with environmental issues. Fifteen documentary films from four continents participated in the international competition.
In his film “Nomad’s Land”, director Gaël Metroz traces with his camera the journey that Nicolas Bouvier made from Geneva to Sri Lanka as an author fifty years ago. Instead of reviving Bouvier’s account of the journey, however, Metroz ultimately describes his own fascination of a world into which Westerners rarely dare to venture anymore.

The film, which celebrated ist premiere at Festival Visions du Réel in Nyon one year ago, is currently touring a number of international festivals. With ticket sales of more than 30,000 in Switzerland, “Nomad’s Land” has attained a relatively high degree of success.
