“Asshak – Tales from the Sahara” nominated for 2006 Grimme Prize

The documentary film “Asshak – Tales from the Sahara” by Ulrike Koch (Production: Catpics Productions, Zurich), which already received several awards at numerous film festivals, has been nominated for the 2006 Adolf-Grimme-Prize. Along with 16 additional films, “Asshak” is participating in the “Information and Culture” competition section, which showcases a spectrum of outstanding documentaries, thrilling investigative reports, and extraordinarily creative works. In its 42nd edition, this year’s winners will be announced on March 15, 2006, and the presentation of prizes and reception will take place in Marl, Germany, on March 31.
The renowned Adolf-Grimme-Prize highlights accomplishments in television that “utilize the specific possibilities of the television medium in outstanding ways and exemplify the practice of television production through form and content.” Prizes will be given in the categories “Fiction & Entertainment”, “Information & Culture”, and “Special.” With a total of 14 awards, the Adolf-Grimme Prizes are regarded as the German television “Oscars.”
“Asshak – Tales from the Sahara” ran in German, Dutch, and Swiss movie theatres. In Switzerland, with approximately 28,000 tickets sold, it took first place among Swiss documentary films. The film received invitations to nearly 25 international film festivals and was awarded several prizes. It was first broadcast on German television in September 2005.
