Another award for “Twist” in Rio de Janeiro
07.11.2007
The experimental short film “Twist” by Alexia Walther was presented the Grand Prix at the 13th edition of Rio de Janeiro’s International Short Film Festival “Curta Cinema” (October 26 – November 4, 2007). The winning of this award, which amounts to 2,000 dollars, enables the Genovese director to submit her film to be nominated for an Academy Award. “Twist” was screened in the competition in Rio together with 48 other short films from all over the world.
The jury presented the Grand Prix (the highest-ranking award in the competition) to the film “for the huge freedom of expression in reflecting about the drama of the war, for the ludic capacity shown as musical poetry and for the beauty and joy of the bodies crossed by the rhythm and vital energy of the twist”.
Since being presented at Festival Entrevues in Belfort one year ago, “Twist” has been screened at twenty festivals and already honoured with five awards. Presently, the film can be seen at the 11th Short Film Festival in Winterthur (November 7 – 11).
Rio de Janeiro’s Short Film Festival “Curta Cinema” ranks, together with the festival in Sao Paulo, as one of the most important events for short films in Brazil.
