Stefan Haupt’s documentary film “Ein Lied für Argyris” has been nominated for the Erasmus EuroMedia Award, which will be presented in the Viennese City Hall on October 10, 2008. On the evening prior to the award ceremony, the film will celebrate its Austrian premiere at the “Filmcasino” in Vienna, with the Swiss director in attendance. The film is distributed by Polyfilm.
“Ein Lied für Argyris” recalls one of the darkest chapters in Greece’s recent history: the brutal massacre committed by an SS Division in the small village of Distomo on June 10, 1944. The four-year-old Argyris lost his parents and more than 30 relatives. With numerous other children who suffered the same fate, he lived in orphanages for many years, until he was sent to the Pestalozzi Children’s Village in Trogen, Switzerland, in 1948. Now a gifted mathematician, Argyris Sfountouris has championed peace and the importance of recounting historical events.

The Erasmus EuroMedia Award is presented by the European Society for Education and Communication (ESEC) in four categories and endowed with monetary awards ranging from 1,000 to 3,000 euros. The jury, presided over by Professor Thomas A. Bauer from the University of Vienna, is comprised of nine experts from various European countries. ESEC fosters the development of awareness for the European common cultural area, international collaboration and the exchange of ideas in the field of knowledge transfer.
