8 Swiss films in Annecy and George Schwizgebel as honorary guest

Switzerland’s animation filmmaking is currently held in high esteem at an international level. No less than four short animation films from Switzerland will be screened in the International Competition at this year’s edition of the most important animation film festival worldwide: AIRPORT by Michaela Müller (Schick Productions); THE LITTLE BIRD AND THE CATERPILLAR by Lena von Döhren; IN A NUTSHELL by Fabio Friedli (YK Animation Studio GmbH); and the French-Swiss-Georgian coproduction THE POCKET MAN by Ana Chubinidze (Nadasdy Film). AIRPORT will celebrate its premiere prior to this at the Animafest in Zagreb; IN A NUTSHELL and THE LITTLE BIRD AND THE CATERPILLAR, the third film in the trilogy about the small bird, were both selected for the Berlinale Generation at the beginning of this year.

SUN MILK by Silvan Zweifel (Lucerne School of Art and Design HSLU) will be screened in the Graduation Film Competition, while the French-Belgian-Swiss coproduction LE VENT DANS LES ROSEAUX by Arnaud Demuynck and Nicolas Liguori (Nadasdy Film) will celebrate its world premiere in the TV Film Competition.

Katrin Rothe’s feature-length animation film 1917 – THE REAL OCTOBER, a German-Swiss coproduction (Dschoint Ventschr Filmproduktion) about the Russian Revolution, will be screened out of competition. The French-Canadian-Swiss coproduction THE BANQUET OF THE CONCUBINE by Hefang Wei (2012) will be presented in the Special Programme.

Georges Schwizgebel, one of Switzerland’s most renowned animation filmmakers, will be awarded the Honorary Cristal in Annecy this year for his comprehensive and multi-award-winning work. The festival celebrates the oeuvre of a leading figure in the animation world with this award every year.
