2003 Swiss Film Prize Award

At the 2003 Swiss Film Prize award ceremony, “On dirait le sud” by Vincent Pluss was selected for the category of “Best Feature Film“ and awarded the monetary prize of fifty thousand Swiss francs. For “Best Documentary Film“, the award and prize of fifty thousand Swiss francs went to “Shepherd’s Journey into the Third Millenium“ by Erich Langjahr. The award for “Best Short Film“ was presented to “Swapped“ by Pierre Monnard with a prize of twenty thousand Swiss francs. Finally, the awards for “Best Actress“ and “Best Actor“, each awarded fifteen thousand Swiss francs contributed by Swissperform (the Swiss actors‘ rights society), were given to Mona Fueter for her performance in “Füür oder Flamme“ and Mathias Gnädinger for his performance in “Big Deal“.
On the occasion of the 38th Solothurn Film Festival, the Swiss Film Prize was awarded by the new director of the Pro Helvetia foundation Pius Knüsel, TSR program director Raymond Vouillamoz, jury president Daniel Schmid, as well as by Florence Heiniger and Max Rüdlinger who moderated the festivities. Pascal Couchepin, President of the Swiss Confederation, gave the opening speech at the award ceremony. Presented for the sixth time since its inception, the Swiss Film Prize is a collective undertaking of the Federal Office of Cultural Affairs, the Swiss Broadcasting Corporation (SRG SSR idée suisse), the Locarno International Film Festival, the Nyon Documentary Film Festival «Visions du réel», the Solothurn Film Festival, and the Swiss Film Center.
The jury for the 2003 Swiss Film Prize included film and opera director Daniel Schmid, former supervisor for selective film promotion of the Federal Office of Cultural Affairs Madeleine Fonjallaz, German film publicist Peter W. Jansen, screenwriter and director Güzin Kar, photographer and editor of the documentary film categories with ARTE-France, Luciano Rigolini, entrepreneur Christa Saredi, and Geneva-born actress Alexandra Tiedemann. Along with the monetary prize, the directors of the winning films were presented a trophy in the form of a professional pocket size “Viewfinder” which can be used in their filmmaking activities.
For the first time, a summary of the award ceremony will be broadcast in German, French, and Italian, on Swiss television SF DRS, TSR and TSI.
