…Max might have stayed in his lonely alpine pasture forever. Then a Yank put the idea in his head that with an edelweiss, he could have any woman he wanted. And Max indeed had an edelweiss. …She lives in Rome and goes by the unusual name of Maria. Alas her views are not all of an exalted nature. It is a matter of life and death. Max decides it is time for the edelweiss and wins Maria for his wife. A happy end seems in order, but Max finds himself back in Siberia. …He had no intention of going there. In any case not without Maria. In a fatal showdown Max follows her traces of blood… Nothing should be spared in this slapstick black comedy. Certainly not love. There is of course a happy ending even so. “I accept chaos, but I’m not sure whether it accepts me.”
