Twenty-eight-year-old Savannah, after fighting the Khmer Rouge for four years, returns to Phnom Penh. There he meets Srey Poeuv, a young woman who is in despair, after being forced to become a prostitute to survive. Poverty leads them both to a path of crime. Savannah, who wanted to live, dies. Srey Poeuv, who would gladly have died, survives alone. But as Savannah’s child stirs, the force of life returns to her veins.
