When disaster strikes… Un Ga Nai is an odyssey through Japan during the year of 1995 when the Aum end of the world sect launched an attack on the Tokyo subway system that resulted in the death of 12 people at a time when the nation was commemorating the 50th anniversary of the dropping of the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Following in the footsteps of other disasters, old and new, the film takes the measure of a high-tech civilisation that tends to rationalise the ever-present threat of annihilation.
