The exceptional destiny of three musicians of Romanian origin: Constantin Brailoiu, Clara Haskil and Dinu Lipatti, who have all left their mark on the music of the 20th century. Switzerland generously welcomed all three and the beautiful landscapes reminiscent of those of Romania was a source of inspiration to them, while a love of music, a natural curiosity and an openness of mind on the part of both the media and the general public helped the three Romanians to make the best use of their talent and to fulfil the promise of genius. Constantin Brailoiu, a tireless researcher in the field of ethnomusicology, serves as the starting point thanks to whom we discover the origins of the character and temperament of the two performing artists, Clara Haskil and Dinu Lipatti. The philosophy the three had in common was summed up by Lipatti thus: “It is for us to serve music, not for music to serve us.” In their different ways each of the three succeeded in the challenge of turning exile into triumph.
