Disillusioned by the harsh conditions in large Chinese cities, twenty-year-old Maofu returns to his family in the village. He has the idea to modernise his ageing father's bee farm. But his father Laoyou wants his son first to learn the craft of beekeeping. Whilst Laoyu is disappointed by Maofu's lack of interest in bees, Maofu feels suffocated by his father's authoritarian tone. Their unspoken expectations tensely echo with the harsh weather conditions and a mischievous goose.
