Arnoldo Dadò, aged 80, lives in the Bavona valley of canton Ticino. Indifferent to society’s constant evolution he continues to follow the customs of an ancient alpine civilisation. Dadò’s favourite haunt is a natural cave used by the shepherds of old, called Splüja Bela. From this starting point he explores the different stages of the “transhumance” migration of sheep and shepherds from winter to summer pastures, conjuring up the spirit of a bygone era, and its deeper meaning, with the help of colourful language and a sharp, ironic wit.
