A kaleidoscope of interviews and scenes taken from everyday life serves as the basis for illustrating the diversity of relationships between mothers and daughters with intercultural backgrounds during the turbulent stages of adolescence. For many a double balancing act, as values begin to shift due to generational and cultural disparities. The film provides a differentiated account of the daughter’s struggle for self-determination without compromising family cohesion. With an astonishing degree of candidness, mothers and daughters speak of methods of upbringing, sex education and sexuality, as well as desires and fears concerning the future. We can easily relate to the innocuous conflicts at the onset of puberty. But it becomes more difficult when a daughter’s right of self-determination in personal matters is impinged upon by the parents’ tradition and/or religion.
