Who farms the alp these days, or in ten, twenty years? Farmers can only entrust their livestock with those who have proper experience in living on the alp during the summer. If this is no longer possible, the cultivated landscape in the Alps will become overgrown. But we can hardly imagine a Switzerland without cattle grazing on Alpine pastures. The film portrays the factors on which this issue depends, while inspiring reflection on the relevance of Alpine farming. What is idealisation, what is reality? In what direction is this long-standing tradition heading? Searching for answers, the film accompanies Alpine herdsmen and herdswomen, as well as researchers of the Alpfutur Project.
