The film follows the traces of a family and uncovers the entanglements of two dictatorships layer by layer. The starting point is the filmmaker's conversations with her grandfather, who overcomes silence for fear of losing his memory. A journey through different time periods and the illumination of several epochs of German history – National Socialism, the GDR and the post-reunification era. How did we become who we are today? A film about remembering, forgetting and personal responsibility in a dictatorship.
