Peter Baumgartner has been a “muzungu” (white person) for 15 years. He is the former correspondent in Africa for the “Tages Anzeiger” newspaper and since 1994, he has lived in Nairobi, Kenya. He is an assiduous and committed apologist of a differentiated image of Africa. Apart from addressing issues in words, he has also taken action in recent years. He built a primary school for the children who live in the Kawangware slum of Nairobi. In 2006, he launched the “Organic Farmer”, a newspaper for small-scale farms, within three months. Baumgartner is our tour guide, leading us through the sundry vegetation zones of Kenyan society.
