What could have led Ms. Nebel, a sympathetic, progressive old lady, to murder her Muslim immigrant neighbour, Mr Hosseini? Inspector Manser, in charge of the investigation in this supposedly quiet valley in the Swiss countryside, is trying to find out. Mixing time frames, the film plunges us into the protagonists' growing loss of time and reality, right up to the agonising denouement.
