The story of a promise. The preservation of stem cells from the umbilical cord of a newborn baby for future treatment of rare diseases. This marketing pitch convinced hundreds of thousands of parents across Europe to turn to the Swiss company Cryosave, a market leader. In September 2019, the company went bankrupt, leaving the genetic material to vanish into thin air, to be taken over by hypothetical buyers in Poland. For the parents, the quest began: where did the stem cells go? The film investigates an opaque world where the human body is traded like a commodity.
