In 1970 and 1974, the Swiss electorate was asked to vote on the so-called Schwarzenbach initiatives. These initiatives' goal was to limit foreigners to 10% and 12% of the Swiss population. Their approval would have resulted in the expulsion of 300'000 people, or half the foreign population at the time. The two initiatives were rejected, but they had a traumatic effect on the immigrant population. The film presents the accounts of ten people who were immigrants themselves or from immigrant families, all originally from Italy and Spain, which were the two nationalities with the greatest numbers in Switzerland at the time of the Schwarzenbach initiatives.
