According to the pioneers of chemical research, the discovery of the first synthetically produced medicine was an accident. A researcher experimenting with dyes was amazed and fascinated at the lethal effect one dye had on bacteria. Today, microbiologists are attempting to unravel the mysteries of the genetic code. Aims and accidents are the subject of this film, which takes a long look at the pharmaceutical industry, its past, present and future, its goals and their achievability.
