Louis Page is a young priest who resorted to “euthanasia” and helped his mother to die when she doctors could no longer do anything for her. To atone for this sin he undertakes a pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela. At the first stop on his itinerary Louis is asked to say mass at a women’s prison. Marie, a woman convicted of killing her husband in a case of legitimate defence, has just lost her mother. When Louis accompanies her to the funeral he discovers that she has a son, Mathieu, who is in the care of his paternal grandparents. At the instigation of the grandfather the whole village has violently turned against Marie. Mathieu is under the impression that his mother has deserted him. Louis takes it upon himself to heal the wounds of this family and succeeds in bringing Mathieu and his mother together again, before resuming his lonely pilgrimage.
