Switzerland's Migros cooperative was founded in 1925 by Gottlieb Duttweiler with the idea of selling quality merchandise at the lowest possible price. When the success of the idea turned Migros into one of the biggest retail chain stores in Switzerland, Duttweiler decided that 1% of turnover would henceforth be invested in the sponsorship of social and cultural activities. Today the Migros company is able to allocate more than SFr 100 million every year to cultural activities thanks to this 1% levy, helping to bridge the gap between the two very different worlds of business and culture in a way that is uniquely Swiss. Focusing on the Migros Clubhouse Concerts the film shows how the business world can become more aware of its duties to the people and to culture. Some historical film documents help bring to life the earliest beginnings of today's successful activities.
