On the south-western coast of Japan, near the Pacific Ocean shore, one of the very last whaling communities still practices traditional whaling. At a time when this tradition is tending to disappear, a growing gap can be observed between vernacular identity and contemporary values. Between resistance and resilience, the village is now preparing to weather one of the biggest upheavals in its history.
