The film accompanies seven shepherds on the Hinterarni Alp in Emmental for one year, portraying their life and work from spring to winter. Particular emphasis is placed on the seasonal migration of the animals to and from the mountains, as well as tending the forest. These shepherds work very hard, often on practically impassable terrain, and are down-to-earth and warm-hearted, nonetheless.
