Gadi Marcus, son of a former rabbi in Bern, was 18 years old when he and his parents immigrated to Israel, where joining the army was compulsory and refusing military service not an option for him. Gadi became an officer. In the street battles in Ramallah he attempted to preserve the human element: “If I were Palestinian, I’d stand here and throw stones, too. They’ll never get their state any other way.” After military service he disappears. In the film Gadi is making his return journey to Israel from a diving area in the Caribbean via Switzerland and Germany. An opportunity to take another closer look at the country for which Gadi feels a certain degree of responsibility. And now a wall is being built right before his eyes.
