The story of the pacifist German writer Erich Maria Remarque, author of the book that sold most copies after the bible: “All Quiet On The Western Front” (60 million copies). A man who fought in WW1, who wrote about the horror of the war in the trenches and on the fields, of gas, camaraderie and death and stolen youth. This documentary is about him, his love for beautiful women, his love story with the actress Marlene Dietrich and the actress Paulette Goddard, who later became his wife.
