In Switzerland, up until 1970, thousands of children were taken from their families and placed in unacceptable conditions. Engel was one of them. Between the ages of 9 and 16, he was exploited as a farmhand: work and abuse were his daily regimen. Occasionally, he was allowed to go to school. Today, Engel is a self-taught painter. At the age of 71, he returns to the places where he spent his childhood to bear witness to that period of his life.
