The protagonist of this film is a red rubber hose. The hose is a minor figure – nothing spectacular, simply fulfilling its purpose. Water is pumped through the hose from a house into a river. A subjective viewpoint combined with the macroscopic view as the camera makes its way through the hose renders its interior visible: the pulsing of its heart. The hose is brought to life. With a radical focus on colours, shapes and the movements of the hose, the inanimate object takes on human traits. Three phases of this hose’s life are depicted, with the hose as a radical metaphor for human life.
