Over a period of several years, the filmmaker takes his camera along on visits to his mother, who is in her 90s. She looks back with humour on her life – and reveals a carefully-kept family secret. Marie Iseli-Stettler lives in an old age home and needs increasing care as time goes on. Iseli does not shy away from documenting the loneliness and pain that overshadow the end of her life: as unavoidable as the helplessness and guilt felt by her four children. Iseli examines old photos, questions his own memories, and reflects on the societal changes his parents experienced as members of the wartime generation. Through one family's story, Swiss history comes alive.
