The director, a passionate musical documentary filmmaker, became fascinated with the machines used by this industry that produces stamped metal boxes. These boxed mechanisms with their sonority, rhythms and automated movement here become the musicians in an orchestra and the dancers of an astounding performance as they create the film’s cinematic score.
