In 1987 the Swiss-American Ernst Aebi found himself stranded at the Araouane oasis in the Sahara on the back of a camel. The few inhabitants were poor. Aebi decided on the spur of the moment to realise a self-help project with them. He became a beacon of hope for these people who had known neither fruit nor vegetables. Aebi, a successful artist in New York, stayed on for three years. A civil war in Mali forces him in the early nineties to escape “his” village. He returned to Araouane in 2008. A film about tolerance, conflict and friendship between cultures.
