Madagascar with its wealth of natural resources and its demographic diversity, is an amazing “image bank”. The film addresses itself to a specific problem: that of a farming community spread throughout the island's last great primeval forest, confronted with an ambitious conservation project. The backdrop to the story is the cruel reality which the cyclone HUDAH left in its wake in April 2000. It resulted in the trafficking of rosewood - a commodity that has become the last lifeline for the farmers of the forest. It is a trade that thrives admidst the indifference of the main non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and with the complicity of the political authorities.
