Léa Pool
Screenwriter, Director
Born in Geneva (Switzerland) in 1950, Léa Pool moved to Canada with her parents at the age of 15. In 1978, she obtained a BA in Communications from the Université du Québec à Montréal and made her first feature film, STRASS CAFÉ, a black and white film that won several festival awards.
Comfortable with intimate films, she focuses on female characters, notably in her films LA FEMME DE L'HÔTEL (1984), ANNE TRISTER (1986) and EMPORTE-MOI (1999). In 1991, she directed LA DEMOISELLE SAUVAGE, filmed in Valais and based on the story of Corinna Bille of the same title. In 2001 Léa Pool shot her first drama in English, REBELLES. She returned in 2015 with La passion d'Augustine. The film deals with a subject close to her heart, namely female emancipation. In 2017, she directed WORST CASE WE GET MARRIED, a fiction film co-produced by Louise Productions Lausanne (Switzerland) and Lyla Films (Canada).
Léa Pool has also been a member of juries at several international film festivals. She also teaches film and video at the Université de Québec à Montréal.
