Shewit, eine eritreische Flüchtlingsfrau, ist sechzehn Jahre alt, als sie allein in Genf ankommt. Sie will sich in der Schweiz integrieren, um ihrer Vergangenheit und ihrem Schicksal als unterwürfige Frau zu entfliehen. Sie will ins Exil gehen, um sich zu emanzipieren. Doch acht Jahre nach ihrer Ankunft hat sie immer noch keine Aufenthaltsbewilligung und ihr Schicksal hängt von der Entscheidung der Behörden ab.
