Stefan Schwietert

Director, Screenwriter

Born in 1961 in Esslingen, Germany. Swiss citizenship. Grew up in Therwil. Made his first films for Videogenossenschaft Basel. 1981-82 Lives in Brazil. Worked as a director’s assistant in musical films for TV Globo. 1982 Receives a study grant for the California Art Institute in San Francisco; attends film and video classes. 1984-90 Studies at DFFB (Deutsche Film- und Fernsehakademie, Berlin). 1991 Founds Neapel Film in Therwil. Produces and directs documentary films. Teaches in film schools in Switzerland and Germany. Lives and works in Berlin and Therwil. 2005 Swiss Film Award, Best Documentary for “Accordion Tribe”. 2008 Swiss Film Award, Best Documentary for “Heimatklänge” (Echoes Of Home).
