Born in Zurich, Switzerland. After graduating from high school in music and art, he completed a preparatory course in film and photography at the Zurich University of the Arts. From 2008-15 he studied cinematography at the Film Academy Baden-Württemberg in Ludwigsburg. His first feature film in which he was cinematographer was SYSTEM CRASHER by Nora Fingscheidt, it was shown at Cameraimage in the Cinematographer's Debut Competition section, was German Oscar Candidate 2020, ran in the Best Film competition of the European Film Awards and was awarded a Silver Bear for the Alfred Bauer Prize of the Berlinale 2019. In the same year the documentary SPACE DOGS by Elsa Kremser and Levin Peter premiered at the Locarno Film Festival in the section Cineasti del Presente and won the Best Austrian Film Prize at the Viennale. 2018 Nomination for the German Camera Award with the feature documentary OHNE DIESE WELT by Nora Fingscheidt. Yunus Roy participated as talent at the Sarajevo Film Festival in 2016 and was selected for the Berlinale Talents 2020. Most recently he worked with renowned filmmaker Helke Misselwitz for her feature documentary DIE FRAU DES DICHTERS (working title) and with director Özcan Alper for his feature film BLACK NIGHT (working title).
