Installés pour plusieurs semaines au Rwanda avec leurs enfants, Michel et Eline Kocher-Mukantare, tous deux journalistes, font le pari de filmer ce pays autrement, en évitant les regards misérabilistes ou compatissants. Ils suivent trois habitants pour comprendre de quoi est fait leur espérance. Au fil du tournage se dégage un horizon commun: l'envie d'acquérir des connaissances, au niveau primaire, secondaire et universitaire. Se dessine ainsi une autre revanche, celle que tant de rwandais rêvent de prendre, après des années de frustration et d'inégalités.
