Pola, onze ans, est déterminée à sauver la piscine «Plitschplatsch» de la fermeture afin que sa meilleure amie puisse revenir. Les parents de son amie, qui tenaient le café voisin, ont émigré lorsque la piscine a fermé. Cependant, son amie ne revient pas, et Pola apprend à laisser le passé derrière elle et à se battre pour une cause plus importante. Au final, Pola remporte la bataille pour sauver la piscine et se fait de nouveaux amis.
