Le film dresse le portrait d'un fort personnage féminin et son processus de deuil personnel dans le cadre d'une étude de longue durée. Au centre de cet objectif se trouve une mère de quatre enfants qui, après le décès de ses deux filles gravement handicapées, renaît de ses cendres comme un phénix et ne correspond pas à l'image sociale d'une mère (éternellement) endeuillée.
