Pour Max, les choses ont simples. Dans une ferme isolée, entre sa mère et son jeune frère Richard atteint d'épilepsie, il remplace le père décédé. Sa mère s'en va vivre avec Richard chez le Dr. Schwander. Le monde s'écroule autour de Max.
