Robert déambule, en compagnie de ses deux amis Antoine et Louis, sur les routes de campagne à bord de son automobile. Il est obnubilé par le sentiment incandescent de son amour de jeunesse, Hélène. Après plusieurs années d’absence et de multiples lettres échangées, il reçoit un ultime courrier annonçant son retour.
